Fading Mists

ADVENTURE THROUGH FADING MISTS
This itinerary is based on an early morning arrival into Nairobi no later than 10 A.M and includes 2 nights in Samburu, 1 nights in the Abadares, 2 night in Lake Nakuru, 2 nights in Mount Elgon, 1 night in Kericho and 2 Nights in the Masai Mara.

Day 1 & 2
Nairobi to Samburu 2 nights
If you arrive into Nairobi during the day then we suggest that you begin your safari immediately and drive to Samburu.
Check in at the lodge in time for lunch if you arrive in the morning and after proceed for the first of your game drives along the semi-deserted scorched lava plains. Some of Kenya's rarer species like the long-necked gerenuk, Gravy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa Oryx and blue-shanked Somali ostrich can be seen here. Because of the sheer rarity and beauty of the rugged terrain I suggest that you spend two nights here.

Accommodation options: Full Board Larsen’s tented camp (luxury small camp along the Ewaso Nyiro river), Samburu Serena (cottage style accommodation in a lodge), Samburu Intrepid (camp accommodation in touch with nature built like a tree house).

Day 3
The Abadares a thick lush forest on mount Kenyans slopes with hundreds of different bird species and small animals as well as beautiful high waterfalls the black leopard, the rare and endangered Bongo antelope and many of the large cats as well as forest elephants.
Accommodation Options: The ARC, or after a short drive you can stay at Naro Moru River river lodge

Day 4 & 5
Lake Nakuru, Hells Gate Naivasha
Leave Lake Nakuru National park after a relaxed morning game drive and sumptuous breakfast. The Great Rift Valley Lakes each have their own beauty and splendor each home to a variety of birds and small grazing animals and large hippo. Lake Naivasha and Elementaita are situated in what was known during the colonial times as the white highlands.
Today Naivasha offers you a walk around a small ranch where the Oscar winning film Out of Africa was shot along the lake as well as boat trips into the mist and an amazing golf course overlooking the whole of the Naivasha area.
For Longer more intense walking safaris Naivasha offers the Hells gate national park a parched landscape. Where large herds of herbivores are seen grazing.
Accommodation Options: Full Board Lake Naivasha Lodge (a simple lodge but well maintained and catered)

Day 6 & 7
Mount Elgon
Depart after breakfast for Mt. Elgon. Unspoilt and as it was thousands of years ago this volcanic mountain presents the world untamed beauty in its rare beautiful birds thick lush forest with leopards the largest of the world’s wild hogs hundreds of forest elephant and forest buffalo. The finest of the Kenyan moors lead your way to a series of caves sacred to the Masai and true Kenyan culture. The Caves provide a spectacle of elephants going underground to the rich salt rocks amazing visitors. Mt. Elgon provides safe weaklings safaris true beauty and peace.
Accommodation Options: Mara Serena (the busiest of the Mara’s accommodation overlooking the Mara River), Fig tree (a tented camp in quaint settings perfect for a recluse looking for peace, tranquility and luxury). Governor’s luxury tented camp or Kichwa Tembo luxury tented camp.

Day 8
Kericho Overnight
After a heart lunch and relaxed morning game drive to Kericho town for a night to break the journey. Kericho is in the Kenyan highlands and is where most of Kenyan tea is grown amazing are the tea estates that you will drive through as well as the aroma of tea encompassing most of the town.
Accommodation: Kericho tea hotel provides a simple elegant and classy break at a very reasonable price this relaxed stay will provide a re-energizing start to the next day to enter the great Masai Mara.

Day 9 & 10
Leave Kericho after breakfast arriving in Masai Mara in about 2 hours. Masai Mara is by far Kenya's most famous of national parks, the long yellow savannah shimmering in the afternoon sun allowing the great cats to blend in with their surroundings. The flat plains provide the best chances of excellent photography, here in the Mara you will have the chance to view the ruminants of the huge herds of wildebeest remaining after the great migration, huge herds of elephant, cheetah, giraffe and many, many birds of prey. Masai Mara is truly the best of Kenya as far as game viewing, photography and the chance of seeing a kill.
